Second Presbyterian Church

Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A.

We are called to be a witness to and for the world of the new reality which God has made available to all people in Jesus Christ. We seek "to know Him and to make Him known" in downtown Richmond and throughout the world.

What's new at Second Presbyterian ?

  • RICHMOND SHAKESPEARE THEATRE PERFORMS IN OUR CHAPEL, BEGINNING FEBRUARY 1:  The Richmond Shakespeare Theatre will begin its third play of the  season downtown at Second Presbyterian Church on November 30.  The offering will be Doctor Faustus, which will be presented each Thursday, Friday and Saturday, through February 25. Productions will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Saturday.  Purchase tickets at www.richmondshakespeare.com or by calling 1-866-BARD-TIX (1-866-227-3849)..

  • BIRTHDAY LUNCHEON, FEBRUARY 4:    Second Presbyterian will celebrate the founding of our congregation with a Birthday Luncheon immediately after worship on Sunday, February 4.  Coat is $7 for adults and $3 for children, with a family maximum of $20.  Come and meet old friends and make some new ones!  Reservations needed by January 29.

  • VALENTINE VARIETY SHOW, FEBRUARY 14:  Second Presbyterian Church will present a Valentine Variety Dinner Show on Wednesday Evening, February 14.  The featured performer will be Stephen Longenecker.  Talented individuals who would like to perform should contact Gloria Van Houten by February 1.

  • HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BLITZ BUILD, MARCH 20-31:  After a successful partnership last year with Keima Henderson, her son Antonio, and a host of other churches--we are ready to enter phase two of our commitment to Habitat. As a result of the generosity and faithfulness in last year's "special appeal," Second Presbyterian has enough resources to fully fund a home.

From March 20-31, 2007, we are being asked to participate in a "blitz build."  During these two weeks (a work week is Tuesday-Saturday) we will build a new home from foundation to finishing nails at 1425 North 22d Street in Church Hill.  We will be supervised by capable and trained Habitat foremen--but we need you to put your faith into action by swinging the hammers!

Come join us--take a couple of days off work; invite your colleagues to join you; talk it up with a small group or class at church--and help us to build.  At the end of our two weeks there will not only be a new house for a deserving family, but there will also be relationships formed.

This is a ministry opportunity deserving of our energy and excitement.  Faith is alive in the sound of hammers and nails.  Come help us spread the good news!

More information and sign-ups will be available in January.  If you have questions, please contact Glenn Thomason, 359-2694,  or Bill McKelway, 233-1065.
