Music and the Arts
The
Choirs
The Ministry of Music at Second Presbyterian Church is about leading the
congregation's song--its hymns, responses, and liturgy--as choirs and
congregation give musical wings to the Gospel. The Music Ministry is
rooted in the vast treasury of old and new sacred art repertoire that unites
strong, God-centered texts with well-crafted music. The Music Ministry of
Second Church is an integral part of the congregation's worship life and witness
in downtown Richmond and beyond. There is a place here for anyone who
desires to learn and grow, and to serve and praise God through music.
- Chancel Choir
- For post-high school age singers
- Sings at 11:00 a.m. worship services, September through June
- Rehearses Wednesdays, 7:30-9:15 p.m. and Sunday mornings, 10:00-10:45
a.m.

- Calvin Choir
- Calvin Choir for
2d through 5th Grades. The Calvin Choir is an excellent place
for your child to learn how to become an active member of the
congregation through both fun and serious musical activities.
Rehearsals focus on the fundamentals of music, simple melodies and
harmonies, and the basics of the Second Presbyterian worship
service. The children will learn how to worship through music,
learning the liturgy, popular hymns, and how to lead a service as a
choir. Emphasis is placed on making sure that each child
becomes comfortable using his or her voice as an instrument of
praise. The Calvin Choir participates in worship once a month
and also plays a large role in music for the annual Christmas
Pageant. Rehearsals are each Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at the Joyful
Noise Station.
Contact Stephen Longeneccker at (610) 4511-8963 or
stephenlongenecker@richmond.edu with any questions or concerns.
- Cherub Choir
- Cherub Choir for age 4 through 2nd
Grade. Church member and teacher, Stephen Longeneccker leads the Cherub choir in a variety of music activities
and games that help children become aware of their voices.
Performing various times throughout the year, the Cherub choir is a
fun and educational way for our youngest members to become involved
in church life and to interact with children of their same age in a
church and musical environment. Last year the Cherub choir
performed a variety of hymns and songs in the fall, Christmas, Palm
Sunday, and Mother's Day. The Cherub Choir participates in
worship two or three times during the fall as well as the annual
Christmas Pageant. Rehearsals are each Sunday after Time
for Children at the Joyful Noise Station. Contact Stephen Longeneccker at (610) 4511-8963 or
stephenlongenecker@richmond.edu with any questions or concerns.
