Children’s Church School

Second Presbyterian Church offers a wide variety of Christian Education experiences for children of all ages.

Children Ages Three and Under

Nursery Care is provided for our infants through toddlers (three years) during church school and worship. The infant, crawler and toddler rooms are located on the second floor of the Virginia Building, rooms 201 and 203. Skilled paid workers and church members provide secure, loving care for our children.

Children Ages Three, Four, and Five Years

The preschool children use the “Wee Believe” curriculum of the PC | USA and meet in the middle nursery room. Wee Believe early childhood curriculum is specifically designed for toddlers (18 to 36 months) and preschoolers (three to five years). It is written and designed to nurture the development of faith through age-appropriate Bible stories. Recognizing that young children learn through repetition, most Bible stories are explored over two sessions.

Children Grades 1 through 5

In Covenant Quest we use the Workshop Rotation Model, which recognizes we all learn in different ways. Creative, child-friendly workshops make this possible by using drama, art, audio-visual, computers, music, puppets, food, and motion. Children are divided in aged groups and then rotate by class to a different workshop each week for a four- to six-week period. During this time, the story is the same in each workshop. Children love repetition and it helps them remember the Bible stories.

Children preschool through fifth grade meet in the Joyful Noise room for an opening gathering, before going with their shepherds to their workshop for the morning.

This fall begins with MOSES!

We encourage your family to watch the movie, The Prince of Egypt together prior to Rally Day, on September 12.  We have discussion questions for your family discussions after or during the movie.

We will be learning songs during our Gathering Time that relate to Moses.

We would love to have your involvement during the Wilderness experience – you may just learn something too!
