Adult Church School

A full range of adult church school classes are available each Sunday.  Following is a list of the Adult Sunday School classes that are being offered: 

FORUM Class. Reformed Christianity affirms that its adherents are called by God to live responsibly as Christians in the social context in which God has placed them.  Through this perspective,  the Forum Class selects issues that impact our community and the world.  The class invites speakers with knowledge of specific areas to present and to discuss the issues with the class. The class will meet in the chapel.  Schedule:
Feb 4 The Rev Doug Smith on "Update on the 2007 Virginia Assembly"
Feb 11 Dr. Jonathan Wight on "Global Poverty"
Feb 18 James W. (Jay) Speer on "Poverty in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Feb 25 Dr. John Moeser on "Poverty in Metropolitan Richmond"
The Basics and Beyond Class is under the leadership Doug Ottati.  Class will study Doug's book Theology for Liberal Presbyterians and Other Endangered Species .  It will meet in Room 301.
Faith & Literature Class explores our faith through contemporary literature. The class is reading and discussing Faith Stories: Short Fiction on the Varieties and Vagaries of Faith, edited by Michael C. Curtis. The Class facilitator is Janet James, Associate Pastor at Second. The class will meet in Room 307.
Impact Bible Class is a lectionary-based Bible study. Historical, cultural, and theological contexts are presented for discussion, followed by the implications of the text for the church and for the Christian life.  Jane Vann and Ron Byars share the teaching. The class will meet in Room 310.

Spiritual Parenting with Teenagers Class will be centered on the book Leaving the Home with Faith, Nurturing the Spiritual Life with Youth, and the sharing of parents' experiences.  It will be led by Pen Peery, Associate Pastor,  and Andrew Troutman, Union-PSCE Student, and will meet in room 309.

Parent Quest (September 24 and October 22) is for parents of children in Covenant Quest (and others interested) ,who want to know what their children are learning about Moses, and how to make story connections at home.  Each Covenant Quest rotation will start with a Parent Quest session, led by Gloria Van Houten.  The session will start with the opening gathering in the dining room.

Advent Celebrations for the Whole Family (November 26 thru December 31) is an opportunity for parents to join their children in Covenant Quest for Advent activities to enjoy together and to take home.  Dining Room.
